MOROCCO - 11th-16th of June, 99


Certainly a most professional and successful kitesurfing event.

20 men and 6 women were competing, from the USA (including Hawaii), France, Germany, England and New-Zeland.

Douzains of journalists covered the event including several TVs.

The winds varied from 20 to 30 knots for 4 days and from 5 to 15 knots one day.
The wind was gusty in Essaouira Bay and the water almost flat.

The wind was steady and the waves 6 feet high at Safi beach, where the event went for one day.

The races :

- Free-Style : 3 riders sailing together in a square area for 30mn, noted by 3 judges.
- Long Distance : one downwind in 30 knot wind and one upwind in light wind.
- Boarder cross : 3 or 4 riders running together and making 2 jumps before crossing the finish line.


The results

Among the first 10 riders, 8 used inflated kites and 2 rigid frame kites.
Among the last 10 : 6 parakites and 4 inflated kites.
